Overview

Cisco Workload Optimization Manager continuously analyzes workload consumption, costs, and compliance constraints and automatically allocates resources in real time. It helps ensure performance by giving workloads the resources they need when they need them. When fully automated, the self-managing platform promotes a continuous state of health in the environment by making placement, scaling, and capacity decisions in real time.

This demonstration walks you through these key features:

  • Plans: Learn how to run simulations to plan various scenarios, in this demo you work through a cloud migration and hardware refresh.
  • Dashboards: Gives you views of your environment that focus on different aspects of the environment and its health. At a glance, you gain insights into service performance health, workload improvements over time, actions performed and risks avoided, and savings in cost.
  • Park: Stop or Start Cloud Resources - Workload Optimization Manager actions stop your cloud resources for a period of time to help you reduce your cloud expenses, and then start these resources later when you need them. You can enforce parking actions on demand, or automatically using parking schedules and policies.
  • Report - Sustainability: Workload Optimization Manager helps companies reduce their energy consumption and carbon footprint by optimizing IT infrastructure while ensuring that applications get the resources they need to perform optimally. This core functionality, along with visibility into sustainability data, is crucial to setting and achieving sustainability goals.

Topology

In this Instant Demonstration, access is provided to a shared CWOM instance which has the following targets configured.

  • Demo Business application: AD-Financial-Lite-ACI:

    • Running on Docker inside VMs on VMware.

    • 23 containers distributed into ten application tiers running various database and applications services.

    • VMware ESXi hosts running on Cisco HyperFlex connected to Cisco ACI.

    • Storage provided by Pure Storage FlashArray M10 R2.

  • AppDynamics SaaS controller which is monitoring the Demo application.

  • Cisco HyperFlex Clusters

  • Public Cloud Accounts (AWS and Azure)

Targets may be added or removed from CWOM as they become available, depending on what is available in the data center where the CWOM instance is deployed.

Note: This is a shared environment monitoring physical infrastructure. The examples detailed in this user guide were captured at the time of writing. Information in the illustrations may vary. Please respect that this is a shared environment and do not add additional targets or otherwise change the CWOM configuration thereby spoiling the environment for other users.
